Before becoming a teachers aide i considered whether or not I wanted to get in to childcare, my oldest daughter had just started prep but my youngest was still in childcare 3 days a week.

I looked in to the courses and considered doing either a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care or a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care, or doing a Certificate III in Education Support or a Certificate IV in Education Support. I looked around at many many colleges until I found the Australian College of Teacher Aides and Childcare www.actac.com.au. Instead of being a sales guy trying to sell me a course the trainers were lovely ladies who had worked as childcare centre managers or primary school teachers.

I immediately knew this was the college I wanted to train with, but then I had to decide what course I wanted to do!

I decided not to do childcare for a coupe of reasons, it would have meant committing to something that my youngest daughter only had another year or two at most, (she was 3), even a part-time job in childcare would not have given me the holidays off with my oldest daughter and that would have meant putting her in after school care and then there was the time off, it was a great way to justify to hubby that I could have school holidays off of work!! The extra money would have been nice but at least I managed to get back on top of the housework and got a bit more time for myself :).

Doing the education support certificate was a no brainer!
